What Your Choice of Sushi Says

The course it traveled, the way it grew, reminded us a little of the American taste for wine. For a while, there was a trace of trying to show how much you knew. When Atlantans began their love for sushi, there was a bit of name-dropping about other cities in which folks had found their favorite, among the townhomes in Atlanta. Then, for a little while, there was a tacit competition over how adventurous your choice of particular sushi creations might be. It took a while for some folks to get real about sushi around here. Probably not you, but possibly your brother-in-law might have served as an example of these growing pains.

Last summer, when Nagomiya joined he lineup of our favorite restaurants in easy reach of those Atlanta townhomes fortunate to be in West Midtown, it seemed like a sign that our love for sushi had reached a place of easy enjoyment with uncompromising quality.

West Midtown is a great neighborhood for restaurants. Has been for quite a while. In fact, owner Takashi Otsuka opened his first restaurant in West Midtown, Wagaya, in 2015. Welcoming Nagomiya to the neighborhood of Interlock seems, in retrospect, like the arrival of more than another fine place to eat. It was a kind of confirmation.

Consider the Philosophy

Choosing a name that means “a house of tranquility,” Nagomiya seems – like Atlanta itself – to accept that it has nothing further to prove. At some times and in some places, Atlanta has been a city that wore its work ethic on its sleeve. There’s a difference between taking pride in one’s work and doing it boastfully. Atlanta has found that difference, taking its place among the world’s great cities, and the arrival of Nagomiya in West Midtown serves as another signal of that.

Further evidence of a relaxed approach is the breadth of the Nagomiya menu. In addition to hand-crafted sushi, they invest the same care in preparing ramen and rice bowls, delicious vegetables, and soups. Their bar menu is just as up-to-the-minute, with original cocktails, favorite and curated wines, and sake ranging from classic to fun to premium.

Keeping Fine Company

And it is not just the arrival of Nagomiya that sends us this reminder of what a great community surrounds the West Midtown townhomes for sale. What it says to us is equally what a fine lineup of favorites we already find there.

The Flying Biscuit, the West Egg Café, you know our old favorites. Pay a visit, too, to Upbeet, on Howell Mill Road, named one of Atlanta’s best lunch spots. A great place for a hang with friends is Ormsby’s for pub food, drinks, and play. You’ve heard no doubt about the tapas at Barcelona Wine Bar and how fun it is to be there. For seafood with a pub vibe, we like the Six Feet Under Pub & Fish House, and for steaks, Marcel offers a step away from the customary, and yet still serves among the finest steaks you’ll find in Atlanta.

Westside living is as good as it comes, and some say the Interlock is the epitome. Call us at 770-696-6705 or find out more at owninterlock.com.
